The valve turned out to be obsolete, but a spare and conversion kit could be arranged to solve the situation for the first and the five subsequent vessels due for docking and showing the same type of valve failure as the first vessel.

Threatening port detention due to broken cargo deck fire line on bulk carrier from the early 80'ties

Ship: Bulk carrier

  • Details & products

SANDER MESON received an e-mail with pictures and description of the problem from the C.E. asking for help. During cargo unloading, a heavy object fell out from the excavator bucket and hit the inlet valve to the fire line manifold. The bronze valve was damaged and the fire line could not be pressurised. The broken valve was identified by our sales engineers, but the exact replacement could not be offered anymore. However, drawings were still available and a modern fire valve with an adoption kit was sent by taxi to the relevant port in Denmark. After repairs and verification test witnessed by the administration, the vessel could leave port as planned.
